Diabetes: A Silent Expanding Epidemic

Diabetes is among the most common chronic diseases worldwide.According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), over 589 million people are living with diabetes globally including 85 million in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This number is projected to rise to 163 million by 2050.

In Egypt (2024), the situation is particularly concerning:

The adult population exceeds 66.6 million people.

The prevalence of diabetes among adults has reached 22.4%.

This equals more than 13.2 million Egyptians living with diabetes.

These alarming figures place Egypt among the countries with the highest diabetes rates, making awareness and early screening a national necessity, not merely a health option.
